Did You Know: The labor movement created Labor Day in the late 1800s. The idea of having a holiday to pay respects to workers spread quickly, and many states followed suit. In 1887 Oregon, according to Britannica, was the first to make the holiday official, then Colorado, New York, Massachusetts and New Jersey established the holiday on the first Monday in September. As other states followed, Labor Day became a Federal Holiday in 1984. Today, we still celebrate Labor Day by honoring and recognizing workers for their contributions to society
