Michael "Signature Mike" Siewert is an established Interior Designer and owner of Signature Interiors. After working with The Beman Group to select the site of his boutique located at 1403 Monte Sano Avenue, We wanted to discuss with him the importance of a good space, and his newest site coming to Fury's Ferry Road in Martinez.


What inspired you to pursue interior design?

I grew up with a Theatre background. I went to a Performing Arts High School with people like Lavelle Smith, Michael Jacksons choreographer and Paige Davis, the host of Trading Spaces. I decided I didn’t have a Bohemian heart and decided to change my path. I found that Interior Design was still a creative outlet for me and I had been decorating and redecorating my room since I was a little boy. So I switched gears in college and studied Interior Design!

 What do you see as the key factor in making your business successful?

Being a business person that people can trust will have their best interest at heart, when it comes to design, price and service. To have a clients faith means the world to me. I work hard to exceed their expectations. I also do my best to resource the best and most unique vendors so that I can offer my clients something different.

As someone who is very conscious about the appearance of a space, what was it about the Monte Sano location that spoke to you?

As my business became successful in Columbia County, I had a desire to expand my brand and reach people in other areas of Augusta. When I saw the boutique space on Monte Sano was available I jumped at the opportunity. I loved the location and the neighborhood feeling of the shops along the street. It has been so rewarding to meet new people that are just around the corner!


Tell us about your new showroom on Fury’s Ferry and why you chose that location to build it?

My first store on Furys Ferry became too small as I wanted to expand my inventory and offer more unique products. I simply outgrow the space as my clientele continued to grow and expected more of me. I needed to add showroom and design studio space and dreamed of building to suit my needs. I saw a premier lot down the street come on the market so I made an offer! The lot was large enough for me to build a retail center where I will rent spaces to other retailers and service companies!


What do you see in the future for your business?

Although I am always looking to expand my brand, we have grown leaps and bounds in the past couple of years. I have an amazing staff, which continues to grow. We are all excited to get settled in our new spaces and relax with our customers! However, we are adding a shoe store under our brand in the new retail center…so maybe we aren’t ready to slow down!


How has your experience been working with Blanchard and Calhoun on selecting and moving into your space?

B & C has always been very professional and easy to work with. When I moved to the area in 2005 from Washington DC we worked with B & C to purchase our home and a rental property. We carried our insurance policies with B & C as well. We have always been met with competent and kind people! When I see Blanchard and Calhoun it actually puts a smile on my face as it always brings happy thoughts to mind!
